The monastery brewery
The monastery brewery
The Ettal Monastery Brewery looks back on a tradition spanning over 400 years and is one of the few breweries still run by monks. Since 1609, the famous Ettal Monastery beers have been brewed right next to the Benedictine Ettal Abbey. The crystal-clear water of the Ammergau Alps and select ingredients form the basis for the high quality of the beers. Despite modern technology, the brewery emphasizes traditional craftsmanship to preserve the unique flavor. The income from the monastery brewery and other monastery-owned businesses contributes to the monastery's economic independence and thus also ensures the monks' supplies. The range includes Ettal Monastery beers, a portion of the Benedictine Hell beer for the region, and specialty beers. Each beer reflects the combination of tradition and modernity and invites you to discover the abbey's centuries-old brewing art.

Tradition meets modernity
Various types of beer
Whether it's the spicy Ettal Dark, the mild Helle, or seasonal specialties like the Kloster Urtyp (Monastery Urtyp), the Ettal Brewery combines centuries-old expertise with modern brewing technology. The Benedictine Weissbier is brewed according to the original Ettal monastery recipe in the partner brewery. The original artisanal process is maintained to preserve the unique flavor. The combination of monastic tradition and contemporary brewing skills makes every Ettal beer a special treat.

Production of the beer
Regional raw materials
The Ettal Monastery Brewery places great emphasis on using regional ingredients. The brewing water comes from abundant springs in the Ammergau Alps, the malting barley grows in the Augsburg and Munich areas, and the hops come from the Hallertau region, the world's largest hop-growing region. This careful selection and the loving processing by the brewers give Ettal beers their distinctive character.
